ER CHEN WAN was formulated in 1151AD and has become the standard formula for reducing phlegm. It is also known as Er Chen Tang (Tang means "decoction" or "tea"). There are five herbs in this formula. Pinellia and Citrus dry the phlegm, harmonize the stomach. Our East Earth Trade Winds herbalist say that Pinellia also relieves vomiting and citrus promotes the circulation of Qi and resolves phlegm. Licorice and Poria tonifies the Spleen. Poria also helps eliminate damp. Ginger helps harmonize the Pinellia. Er Chen Wan is good for cough with excess phlegm, chronic coughing (similar to the symptoms of chronic bronchial inflammation), and gastric symptoms (poor appetite or excess stomach acid). This formula may also help morning sickness during pregnancy.
